Pictures of My Father, December ’89
This evening I found a few more images of my father, the writer Paul Cornel Chitic, on television during the unfolding of what he long believed to have been a revolution.
He truly believed it.
Like him, many other Romanians risked their lives for noble ideals undermined by security men and traitors. Many made the supreme sacrifice for great ideals defiled by security men and traitors.
Towards the end of his life he understood that he had been cannon fodder in a squalid scenario for the seizure of power by a handful of men.
The same men…
Postscript: note that throughout their captivity the Ceaușescus asked repeatedly to be put in touch with the Army, not with the Securitate. Elena Ceaușescu, before being executed alongside Nicolae Ceaușescu, said as much: “Those men — the ones who fired on the soldiers — are the Securitate’s, not ours…”
So that it be clear who made the “Revolution”, and who won it.
And who has been governing Romania these thirty years: they were, and are, the true terrorists.
You do not believe it? Look at the budgets of the new Securitate — the largest per head of population in all NATO — and at its penetration of every social sphere: the courts, business, the administration, the government, the presidency.
For thirty years we have been living in Securistan.
And it was not for this that ordinary people fought — those who may truly be called Revolutionaries, though, against their will, they were only pawns in an abject coup d’état.
Second postscript: “those who killed thirty-nine people at the barricade were the Securitate and the militia. Those who fired at Timișoara, those who fired at the barricade… the true enemies of the Revolution were the agents of the Securitate and of the militia. These were crimes committed directly, which the law did not permit. Măgureanu did something very grave: he relied on the Securitate. He was protected by those who had an interest in keeping everything hidden… Thousands upon thousands of men were open to blackmail. Thousands upon thousands were sent into politics and were open to blackmail. How was it possible for there to be protocols between the judiciary and the Securitate — it is unacceptable. In October 1990 Măgureanu met the head of the KGB in Moscow…” So says Petre Roman.
The same men… the same security men. And many are still among us. The true terrorists.
