A Drop (a poem)

A Drop

Falling in haste towards Gaia’s womb, / I hear in its gliding the whole song of becoming, / a drop.

As all of life goes gliding into a spin, / man having as his only aim to know — / a drop —

that the whole mystery of this opaque world / lies hidden, resting quietly in peace, / within the drop.

How it is, in itself, everything: / the puddle, the river, the sea, the ocean, / as a drop.

Uniting in itself, in its hurried fall, / all that is below with the mysteries of heaven, / in the drop.

Yet it, dashing itself into the muddy pool, / seems to become one with the bank, / a drop —

only until, at the sun’s summons, / its wandering nature reminds it / that it is a drop…

And now, looking upon the sky’s offering, / how the gods themselves offer glory towards us / upon a drop,

beseeching man to lift his thought / towards the height of heaven, that he may be blessed — / a drop:

for as every droplet is the whole ocean, / so is man one with the Lord, / a drop…
