The Prayer of Saint Ephrem the Syrian

The Prayer of Saint Ephrem the Syrian, the prayer that must enlighten and guide us throughout the whole season of the Triodion — more precisely for ten weeks, from today until Great Friday:

“O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, faint-heartedness, lust of power and idle talk. (a prostration) But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love to me, Thy servant. (a prostration)

Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou unto ages of ages. Amen.” (a prostration)

And after this prayer these four verses are said, again in three stands, with twelve bows: O God, be merciful to me a sinner. (a bow)

O God, cleanse me a sinner. (a bow)

Thou who hast created me, O God, save me. (a bow)

Without number have I sinned, O Lord, forgive me. (a bow)

And afterwards, again the Prayer of Saint Ephrem the Syrian, entire, with two bows, and at the end with one great prostration:
